Instructions for Authors
- Scope and General Policy
The University of Bahri Medical Journal (UBMJ) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the University of Bahri, Sudan. The journal publishes original research, reviews, case reports, and editorials covering all aspects of clinical medicine, public health, medical education, and basic medical sciences.
Submission implies:
- That the work has not been published before (except as an abstract or as part of a published lecture or thesis).
- That it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
- That its publication has been approved by all co-authors and the responsible authorities at the institute where the work was carried out.
- Ethical Requirements
UBMJ adheres to the highest ethical standards.
- Ethical Approval: All research involving humans or animals must include a statement in the Methods section identifying the Ethics Committee or IRB that approved the study, including the approval reference number.
- Informed Consent: For research involving human subjects, authors must state that informed consent was obtained from participants (or their guardians).
- Patient Anonymity: Case reports must ensure patient confidentiality. Photographs must be cropped to prevent identification unless written consent is provided.
- Manuscript Categories
- Original Articles: Full-length reports of original research (up to 3,500 words, excluding references/tables).
- Review Articles: Comprehensive summaries of specific medical topics (up to 5,000 words).
- Case Reports: Unique or rare clinical presentations (up to 1,500 words, max 10 references, max 3 figures).
- Editorials: Usually invited; brief commentaries on current medical issues.
- Letters to the Editor: Comments on recently published articles in BJM.

- Manuscript Preparation
- All manuscripts should be written in clear, concise English and submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
- Title Page
- Full title of the manuscript.
- Full names of all authors with their institutional affiliations.
- Name, address, telephone, and email of the Corresponding Author.
- A short running title (max 50 characters).
- Abstract and Keywords
- Original Articles: Structured abstract (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion) of no more than 250 words.
- Case Reports/Reviews: Unstructured abstract of no more than 250 words.
- Keywords: 3 to 6 keywords using Medical Subject Headings.
- Main Text Structure (Original Research)
- Introduction: State the background, rationale, and objective of the study.
- Methods: Detail the study design, setting, participants, interventions, and statistical methods.
- Results: Present findings logically using text, tables, and figures. Avoid repeating data in the text that is clear in tables.
- Discussion: Interpret findings, compare with previous literature, state limitations, and provide a final conclusion.
- Acknowledgements: Acknowledge individuals or organizations that provided technical or financial support.
- References
UBMJ uses the Vancouver Style (numbered consecutively in the order they appear in the text).
- In-text: Use superscript numbers.
- Journal Article: Ali MN, Ahmed MM. Impact of malaria in Sudan. University of Bahri Med J. 2024;10(2):45-50.
- Book: Nelson WE. Textbook of Pediatrics. 21st ed. Philadelphia: Elsevier; 2020.
- Tables and Figures
- Tables: Must be created in Word (not as images), numbered with Arabic numerals (Table 1, Table 2), and cited in the text.
- Conflicts of Interest and Funding
- Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could be perceived as biasing their work. If no conflict exists, state: "The authors declare no conflict of interest." Sources of funding must be explicitly stated.
- Figures: High-resolution (min 300 dpi) in JPEG or TIFF format. Legends should be provided at the end of the manuscript file.
- Submission Process
Manuscripts should be submitted by sending to the email of the University of Bahri Medical Journal ubmj@bahri.edu.sd. During submission, the corresponding author will be required to attach:
- The Main Manuscript (Anonymous/Blinded for peer review).
- The Title Page (with author details).
- A signed Cover Letter.
- Peer Review and Publication
All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process. Authors will be notified of the editorial decision (Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject) within 4-8 weeks.
- Article Processing Charges (APC):
According to the policies of University of Bahri there may be APC that will be communicated through the Journal website.
